Being driven by Ford’s customers in over six different countries, and having already sold over a million units worldwide, the globally tried and tested Ford Fiesta is only ‘new’ to Indian soil. After a host of promotional and innovative marketing moves that has gotten a lot of sedan enthusiasts in the country, curious and anxious to get a look, feel and drive in this new car, Ford Motors has now officially launched the new Fiesta sedan in India.
new Fiesta is a breakthrough both on the design and technology fronts. While the kinetic design philosophy has resulted in its curvy body, clean flowing lines and a rather sporty stance on the outside the dashboard and centre console on the inside draw inspiration from objects of desire such as high end watches and mobile phones.
As far as power delivery is concerned, Ford has ushered in two all-new engines for the Indian market with the launch of this car. Both its petrol and diesel engines displace 1 .5 litres, and are mated to 5-speed gearboxes. The petrol Duratec Ti VCT featuring a twin independent variable camshaft timing technology churns out 110PS at 6045rpm and makes 140Nm of torque at 4500rpm. The 1.5 TDCi Duratorq diesel on the other hand produces 91PS of power at 3750rpm, and a rather stellar 204Nm of torque between 2000 and 2750rpm.
The petrol engine comes with an ARAI tested mileage of 17 kilometres to the litre, while the diesel delivers an ARAI tested 23.5 kilometres to the litre. Safety too has been accorded priority in the new Fiesta, with two front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and brake assist. Moreover, the sturdy construction is designed to keep occupants safe on a top priority basis even under harsh and hostile conditions.
Priced between Rs 8.23 - 9.42 lakh for petrol and Rs 9.27 - 10.42 lakh for the diesel variants (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). The new Ford Fiesta will certainly prove worthwhile for those looking for a stylish and sturdy sedan
